Celebrating E.A.C.H. & Camp Jojo
FAMILIES enjoyed a magical summer adventure at a fully accessible campsite near Colchester.
The trip took place at Camp JoJo and was organised for families supported by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). The camp gave children with complex needs and their families the chance to enjoy outdoor activities in a safe, supportive setting.
Clare Oakley, groups and events co-ordinator at EACH’s The Nook, said:
"There was a magical, relaxed atmosphere throughout, and it gave families the chance to enjoy experiences and activities that many people might take for granted."
"I saw one mum sitting quietly reading her book. She told me it was something she hadn’t been able to do for such a long time. That really summed up what this trip was all about."
There were lots of organised activities and opportunities for fun, but there was also space for families to slow down, relax and simply enjoy spending time together.
Camp JoJo is a charity founded by parents with first-hand experience of raising children with complex needs and disabilities. It aims to create a fully accessible camping experience which offers both adventure and relaxation.
Each family was paired with a volunteer helper for the duration of their stay to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit. The campsite has accessible tents, hoists and adapted shower, toilet and changing facilities.
Activities included feeding donkeys, making pottery, beachcombing, rock pooling and a talent show. Families also used hammocks in the woods with help from a mobile hoist, so everyone could take part.
