Imagine spending a summer weekend around a campfire, walking along the beach, sharing laughter over a barbecue and watching children beam with pride as they take to the stage for Camp Jojo's Got Talent.
Now imagine knowing that simply by being there, you've helped make those moments possible for a family who may never have experienced them before.
That's exactly what our Family Support Volunteers do.
Every Family Deserves a Weekend Like This
For many of the families who come to Camp Jojo, everyday life can be incredibly demanding. Caring for a child with complex needs or a life-limiting condition often means that family holidays simply aren't accessible or affordable.
At Camp Jojo, those barriers disappear. Children can explore, play and make friends. Brothers and sisters can enjoy activities together. Parents can relax knowing they're surrounded by people who understand, support and genuinely care. But none of this happens without our amazing volunteers.
What Does a Family Support Volunteer Do?
Family Support Volunteers provide daytime, non-medical support to one family throughout the weekend.
From the moment families arrive on Friday afternoon, you'll get to know them, support them during activities and help them make the most of everything Camp Jojo has to offer.
You might be:
Helping a child explore woodland trails using specialist all-terrain equipment.
Joining families for beach games and seaside adventures.
Supporting inclusive arts, crafts and outdoor activities.
Sharing meals together around the camp.
Singing around the campfire.
Cheering on children during our legendary Camp Jojo's Got Talent evening.
Lending an extra pair of hands so parents can simply enjoy spending time together as a family.
You'll usually stay with the same family for the whole weekend, building trust and becoming part of their Camp Jojo experience.
Where children have more complex care needs, we make sure experienced volunteers are part of the support team, and you'll never be expected to manage things on your own.
You Don't Need to Know Everything
Experience supporting children with disabilities is always welcomed, but you don't need to be an expert. What matters most is kindness, patience, a willingness to learn and a belief that every family deserves opportunities to create happy memories together.
Our experienced team will provide guidance, support and training throughout the weekend, and you'll be surrounded by volunteers who are always happy to help. Many people arrive on Friday wondering if they'll fit in. By Sunday, they're already asking when the next camp is.
The Camp Jojo Magic
Ask any volunteer why they come back, and they'll probably struggle to put it into words.
One volunteer shared:
"Everyone was so welcoming, supportive, mucked in, and just had fun, which made the whole camp an incredibly happy place for every single person to be. It rubbed off on each and every one of us – the Camp Jojo magic, I guess! Can't wait for more."
Another said:
"Every single person I met this weekend was there for a shared reason. Not for money, not because they had to or for 'likes', but just to make the summer of so many families as perfect as they deserve."
It's these moments of kindness, friendship and inclusion that make Camp Jojo so special.

We're currently looking for more Family Support Volunteers for our final summer camp of 2026, taking place from
28–30 August at Nags Head Farm, Cumbria.
14-16 August at Ivy Farm, Essex
